Advocates meet the client, family member(s), and/or friend(s) at a hospital or other medical facility. Advocates provide physical/emotional support for both the primary and secondary victims. Crisis intervention is also performed at this time. Services of the agency are offered and well as referrals/information on surrounding agencies. Information on Crime Victims Compensation is explained at this time as well as assistance as needed. The client is offered to utilize our services until needs are met, which may include but are not limited to accompaniment to law enforcement, court, etc.
Survivor Services also works through the Coalition for Victims of Violent Crimes, which provide services for all victims of violent and/or related crimes. The Coalition consists of local agencies that provide these services for clients and information as well as referrals are shared among agencies. The center also assisted in the development of the Sexual Assault TASK Force of SE Texas. This TASK Force participates and supports training for SANE nurses, ensures a continuum of services with OAG, St. Elizabeth, and Rape & Suicide Crisis of SE Texas, Inc. The center works with Communities In Schools through the Education Department by increasing awareness and prevention as well as identifying new survivors. The Rape & Suicide of SE Texas also works with other participating United Way agencies providing information and referral of services, i.e.: Hospice, Spendletop MHMR. With these services as well as many more of those offered by the team to ensure the continuity of care and that both the immediate and long term emotional/physical/psychological needs of sexual assault survivors and their family members as well as those in general crisis are being met to their satisfaction.
